Daniel 9:24-27
A period of seventy sets of seven has been decreed for your people and your holy city to finish their rebellion, to put an end to their sin, to atone for their guilt, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to confirm the prophetic vision, and to anoint the Most Holy Place. Now listen and understand! Seven sets of seven plus sixty-two sets of seven will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until a ruler - The Anointed One - comes. Jerusalem will be rebuilt with streets and strong defenses, despite the perilous times. After this period of sixty-two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end. The ruler will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven, but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all his terrible deeds, he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration, until the fate decreed for this defiler is finally poured out on him.
The angel Gabriel is explaining what will happen in the future to Daniel with the Israelites. There are a total of 70 weeks that must take place before the very end of time. The reason for these weeks of judgment is so that Israel can be saved. It is to put an end to their rebellion, their sin, and to atone for their guilt. Israel has always been a stiff-necked people who hearts are hardened towards God. And God keeps pouring out His judgment, and then the people repent, then God shows His mercy, and then the people rebel against God. So these weeks are to set a precedent to finish once again their rebellion, and to bring them back to God.
Daniel was living in Persia when he had these prophetic dreams and visions. Gabriel explains that Israel will be back in the land that God gave to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (whose name was changed to Israel). Jerusalem will be rebuilt, the temple will be rebuilt (second temple), and that the people will once again flourish in their land. After 62 weeks Jesus is born in Bethlehem, raised in Nazareth, and became The Anointed One, The Messiah, The Christ. Jesus brought a new way of living, but he had to deal with the Priests and the Pharisees, and the Saduccees. Their hearts were hardened, and they hated Jesus. They wanted to kill Him. Jesus went to the cross, died and bled, buried in a tomb, and rose on the 3rd day. Then 40 days later Jesus ascended into heaven where He is seated at the right hand of His Father God. Then in 70AD the Romans destroyed the Temple, and chased out all the Jews in Jerusalem and the land of Israel. The Judaism that we see today is a result of the burning of the Temple back in 70AD. There has been no sacrifices for 2000 years. The Jews in Israel are looking forward to the day that their Temple will be built again.
Now, we enter the 70th week spoken in verse 27 about the antichrist. This ruler or antichrist will make a pact with Israel for 7 years, it will be a peace pact. Different than the pact that President Trump made with the Abrahamic Discord. This pact will be peace treaty, and the Israel wll be able to build their Temple (3rd Temple) once again. Right now, today, everything is ready and set in motion for when the Temple is built, the sacrifices are ready to be started and made. What we are seeing today are the labor pains that Jesus spoke about in the Gospels. We are seeing everything set in motion for the kingdom of the antichrist to come to fruition. This is where we are at in the 21st Century.
This ruler the antichrist will make a pact, then after 3 1/2 years he will put an end to all the sacrifices and offerings that was taking place in the New Temple, and he will have a statue made of the beast, and will place it in the holy of holies. He will have the entire world worship his statue, and will have the world pledge their allegiance to the beast and his kingdom and have his mark placed on their right hand or forehead (Revelation 13). This antichrist will bring descration to the Temple, and then he will be given all authority to go after Israel, and anyone who defies his kingdom and does not take his mark. He will murder those who do not follow his orders. Which is why Jesus spoke in Matthew 24 about running to the wilderness where God has prepared a place for Israel, and Jesus warns them that their flight does not take place in the winter, or that the women are pregnant during that time, because of them being slowed down. Jesus says for them to leave everything they have behind and to take off running.
The antichrist knows that he only has a short time left to try and get rid of the people of God, the chosen ones, Israel. At the end of the 7 year Tribulation, Jesus comes back on a White Horse and walks through the Eastern Gate, and destroys the armies that have come against Israel in the Battle of Armageddon. Jesus throws the beast and the false prophet into the Lake of Fire, and satan is cast into the abyss for a thousand years.
The 70th week is called by many names: THE GREAT TRIBULATION. THE WRATH OF GOD. JACOBS TROUBLE. But regardless of how you term it. It is coming to pass, it is on its way, and there is nothing you can do to stop it. The 70th week will happen. The only person standing in the way is the church and the Holy Spirit. Once the church is raptured out, and the Holy Spirit steps aside. It will be full on war like never before. This will be a time like never before, and it will never happen again. This is the last and final straw.
We are living in the latter part of the last days, and Jesus is coming very soon. We as the church need to be on the lookout, we need to be watchful, and we need to do the work that Jesus has called us to do. Make Disciples of the entire world. Plus to keep busy. We are not to be idled, or be end time preppers. We are to use wisdom in everything that we do, and we are to put our trust in Jesus Christ Who is our Lord and Saviour. Accept Jesus Christ into your hearts today.
